A recent case came up related to a patient that was in the window for alteplase and had an established neurostimulator (2 years) with no recent surgical procedures. Can this patient safely receive alteplase?
Dr. Avila reports:
The neurostimulators fall into the same category as other implanted devices (pacers etc.) where the only contraindication would be in relation to the surgery. Patients with DBS, VNS and spinal stimulators can receive alteplase just like everyone else.
